Khürt Williams

I am an information security professional, a former web developer, avid photographer, and technology geek. I am also a craft ale and coffee fanatic. I've been online since at least 1986 while attending Drew University and on the Internet since 1992 while at the University of Michigan (Rackham Graduate School).

Website

The Island in the Net website is where I share my incoherent random thoughts and rants about technology and photography geekery, coffee, craft ale, diabetes, and life.

I hosted websites on UserLand Manila, Blogger, MoveableType, and WordPress.com before I settled on self-hosted WordPress in 2003. I’ve had my domain for over 20 years. My website supports RSS and uses Webmention, Semantic Linkbacks, Post Kinds, Syndication Links and IndieAuth via IndieWeb WordPress plugins.

Background

I've got a background in electrical engineering (R&D), open-source software, system integrations, and cybersecurity. Before 2014, I worked as a full-stack web developer using Linux, Apache, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Perl, PHP, and JavaScript. From 2002, my focus shifted to systems and app security. In 2013, I began consulting as an indie infosec architect. You can check out my website, Monkey Hill, LLC, hosted on Micro.blog.

Working On

Nothing at this time.

WordPress

I've used the WordPress platform since 2003 (WordPress), but I was blogging years before that. I started self-hosting my WordPress in 2005. I discovered the IndieWeb movement in 2017. My website supports Webmentions, Post Kinds and Syndication Links.
