!tell tantek Turns out you are right about abolishing feeds. According to a book I found, RSS will turn us all into zombies: http://photos.waterpigs.co.uk/p/ps

aaronpk - geoloqi blog is running WordPress? Are all comments moderated by default? (I didn't put in any URLs/links or anything)
#
tantek
when did WordPress comment moderation become such a barrier? has it always been that bad or has it gotten worse recently?
#
tantek
I also tend to wonder if crappy commenting systems are partially to blame for the rise of hosted commenting systems, like using Facebook or Disqus.
#
tommorris
tantek: yep. I can't remember the last time I actually successfully posted a blog comment.
#
tommorris
should qualify that.
#
tommorris
I can't remember the last time I turned up at a blog, typed in my name, email, url and a comment and posted it without hassle.
#
tommorris
usually hassle involving logging in, deciding whether or not to give it my Facebook credentials or any number of other things.
#
tommorris
also, the wordpress openid plugin is very temperamental on a lot of sites.

tommorris
the underlying moral: sorting wheat from chaff is a hard problem.

tommorris - re: sorting wheat from chaff is a hard problem -> I think that's what FB has addressed with their silo - for all it's cumbersomeness, the whole "use your 'real' identity" thing does reduce the chaff.

tantek: I think there's a threshold where some comments get put into the moderation queue
#
aaronpk
I approved yours
#
tantek
the unpredictability of such thresholds makes them frustrating and harms UX greatly
#
aaronpk
agreed
#
tantek
basically, Wordpress has failed at comments
