i've definitely found the best way to get in touch with him is via google+ :)
#
tantek
I hope he's able to get factoryjoe.com up & running again. See this branch (sadly ironically) for details: http://branch.com/b/why-are-silos-beating-the-light-out-of-an-open-social-web
#
aaronpk
I saw :(
#
aaronpk
it's a curious problem
#
aaronpk
"but therein lies the rub — outsourcing to a "silo" is just easier"
#
aaronpk
wow this is great, I hadn't read this whole post before, I only saw the original tweet and the various tweets around it http://web.archive.org/web/20130216194431/http://factoryjoe.com/blog/2007/08/25/groups-for-twitter-or-a-proposal-for-twitter-tag-channels/
#
tantek
coincidentally, Mark Hendrickson of "one click indieweb install" fame got his site up & running again today
#
aaronpk
oh great! i remember that!
#
aaronpk
ah interesting.. I didn't even realize that hashtags don't have the "domain squatting" problem, because:
#
aaronpk
"It also enforces actual use in the wild of tags, since no evidence of a tag will exist without it first being used in conversation."

greetings indiewebcampers
#
aaronpk
greeting human
#

I've been pondering the use of "website as your API" in particular for indie web sites
#
tantek
since indie web sites are particularly sensitive to maintenance issues (multiple URLs for the same thing etc.)
#
tantek
and since we seem to have more of a bias towards static file storage solutions rather than database solutions
#
tantek
is anyone else using HTML5+microformats for their static file storage?
#
aaronpk
yes I'd like to drop my atom version of my feed in favor of people grabbing content from my html feed
#
tantek
aaronpk - you use markdown files for storage right?
#
aaronpk
yes, everything ist stored in markdown with a yaml chunk at the top for metadata like date, timezone, location, etc
#
aaronpk
then I build the HTML version on the fly from those files
#
tantek
ok, then it's less of an issue for you then
#
aaronpk
yes, although I still have the annoyance of maintaining two views of the same data (HTML and XML)
#
tantek
right
#
tantek
I wonder how hard it would be to deploy an hAtom (h-entry) to Atom proxy on AppEngine
#
tantek
because nobody really cares that feed URLs look pretty right?
#
aaronpk
it would be best to set up a simple project that can be pushed to heroku or an AWS server so everyone can potentially run their own or run shared ones
#
aaronpk
like how hubs work in pubsubhubbub
#
tantek
yes that makes sense. you could even have composite hubs that did both.
#
aaronpk
should be pretty simple now that there are multiple microformats2 parsers!
#
tantek
true!

speaking of storage discussions, finally read termie's post about pycon
#
tantek
sigh. oh termie. I wonder who it was that he heckled.

hober
yeah, sadface.
#
tantek
this has me reviewing our code of conduct
#
tantek
aaronpk - I think one thing the indiewebcamp code of conduct could use would be a tldr summary at the top
#
tantek
what do you think of this:
#
tantek
tl;dr: Be respectful of other people, respectfully ask people to stop if you are bothered, and if you can't resolve an issue contact staff. If you are being a problem, it will be apparent and you'll be asked to leave.

holla
#
termie
erm "hello folks"
#
tantek
welcome termie!
#
termie
but my rel links are on term.ie/blog not term.ie
#
tantek
aaronpk ^^^
#
termie
aaronpk: and tantek tells me you might be able to help :)
#
termie
aaronpk: if it isn't possible to do paths i can probably do something shady via useragent but i'd prefer not to
#
tantek
termie, you should update your links to twitter, github, facebook to use https
#
termie
tantek: what rabbit hole have i jumped in...
#
tantek
termie - copy the default HTML that term.ie is returning into an index.html file and add a few innocuous looking folders named "facebook", "github", "twitter" to the list
#
tantek
save as index.html, presto done
#
termie
tantek: (it's already fake folders)
#
tantek
termie - it's because on those sites - twitter, github, etc., you list your URL there as "http://term.ie" rather than http://term.ie/blog
#
tantek
rel-me requires that they both point to each other
#
termie
oh really
#
termie
hmm
#
tantek
so yeah - add those links to your "home" page (with https and rel=me) and that should work
#
tantek
there's a simple RelMeAuth test setup here too: http://tantek.com/relmeauth/
#
termie
success, put them in a display none
#
hober
hidden metadata ftw? :)
#
termie
oh my, hcard up in this
#
termie
and i'm like third on the list using this sorting
