is there a php library that fetches HTML of remote comment that I can show on my page?

cweiske: not yet, but given that barnaby has written a PHP µf2 parser, shouldn't be too hard. ;)
#
cweiske
please don't tell me it's not too hard
#
cweiske
I am a developer myself, and I know how hard it is to get things implemented correctly with all the edge cases
#
tommorris
this is true.

cweiske: I know of screen scraping libraries in perl and python. (HTML::Tree and beautifulsoup, respectively.) I assume PHP has them too

aaronpk: I'm new here and all but personally, I find the updates from Loqi distracting and not especially interesting. just my two cents. I'll probably see if I can simply /ignore Loqi
#
cweiske
I don't want a screen scraper
#
cweiske
basically one that implements the display-comments process in the wiki
#
pdurbin
display-comments?
bnvk joined the channel
#
tommorris
pdurbin: the wiki edit notification is useful, but the tweet notification can be a bit spammy
#
pdurbin
tommorris: I'm just ignoring everything from Loqi now. much happier ;)
#
pdurbin
cweiske: thanks
#
tommorris
goes and writes mean things on the wiki about pdurbin safe in the knowledge that he won't see them. ;)
#
pdurbin
maybe people are writing mean things about me all over the place. I hope not

aaronpk
pdurbin: sorry some of the tweets get spammy, but that's how I read twitter, I never actually go to twitter.com anymore
#
aaronpk
unlikely to remove that feature from Loqi. your solution of just ignoring him is probably the best
#
Loqi
woot!

pdurbin I find the wiki updates useful to see what people are actually working on / developing
#

wiki + IRC notifications is cheap way to encourage serendipitous realtime collaboration

I can't read French :)
#
tantek
oh right, xtof's amazing translations :)
#
tantek
just point your French friends at them!
#
pdurbin
don't get me wrong. I may send commits from https://github.com/iqss/dvn to http://irclog.iq.harvard.edu/dvn/today ... that kind of information is interesting to me in #dvn
#
pdurbin
again, I'm new here. for now I'll just keep ignoring Loqi. lowers my blood pressure
#
Loqi
dude
#
tantek
LOL - Loqi just responded to you pdurbin
#
EdwardHinkle
lol that was awesome
#
EdwardHinkle
poor Loqi's feelings are probably hurt
#
pdurbin
still not worth it
#
tantek
it's Loqi's intermittent humor reinforcement that ironically makes it quite worth it :)

!tell barnabywalters nice comment microformat brainstorm. I riffed on it a bit, simplified (I think), and added details re: other comment properties: http://microformats.org/wiki/comment-brainstorming#microformats2_p-comment_h-entry
#
Loqi
Ok, I'll tell him that when I see him next
#
tantek
eschnou: since you're already publishing comments received via webmentions, I definitely want to know what you think of this brainstorm for how to mark them up: http://microformats.org/wiki/comment-brainstorming#microformats2_p-comment_h-entry
#
EdwardHinkle
oh wow! Loqi is gonna give him a message for you? Now THAT is cool
#
tantek
yes - that's the thing, if you ignore Loqi, you'll miss any messages anyone has left for you
#
tantek
and with that it's time for a mid-day run

!tell tantek looks good to me, happy to attempt to implement it. Only weird thing is this empty a link with a reference to the same page for the reply-to url. I don't see the use case where it is necessary, can you elaborate ? Cheers.

!tell eschnou - great to hear it. thanks for evaluating the comments markup brainstorming. use-case for the same page u-in-reply-to is applications/sites that may subscribe to the comments as a feed, perhaps mix them in with other comments/entries. keeps the context.
#
Loqi
Ok, I'll tell them that when I see them next
#
tantek
!tell eschnou the same page in-reply-to url is not critical, but I think it is a simple/good pattern to help encourage extracted data to be self-contained in general.
