just encountered the first case when I want to schedule a future post. mostly it's because I want to wait to tweet this until more people are awake and looking at twitter so it has a better chance of being seen.

anyone know of good ways to find how much an HTML document has changed from one version to the next?

thanks hadleybeeman! looking…
#

aw, no code :( looks like a useful service though
#

That's a shame. Sorry. I wasn't sure (from my mobile( if it was the one I've used in the past… but never mind. Good luck with it, whatever you're up to!

no problem :) building an an HTML archiver, want to be able to use superfeedr’s HTML page change notifications, but they trigger whenever there’s a change, however small. so to prevent storing hundreds of copies, I need to be able to determine roughly how much the document has changed

It's still super alpha quality, but I'm finally POSSE'ing my twitter posts: https://github.com/brianloveswords/posse-twitter #indieweb

brianloveswords: nice! but it’s not true posse until you’re publishing on your primary identity ;) great start though
#
brianloveswords
barnabywalters: haha, yeah, the problem is there's no credentialing system right now so you can totally go and post on my behalf if you find the 'new status' page.
#

hehe
#
barnabywalters
ah, I see :) indieauth is super easy to set up
#
brianloveswords
barnabywalters: yep, that's the plan!
#
brianloveswords
I just wanted to get the status/twitter stuff working first.
#
barnabywalters
I think my auth code is about 50 lines of PHP, including session encryption and storing
#
barnabywalters
brianloveswords: nothing wrong with that :)
#
brianloveswords
I'm gonna try to get auth done tonight and then switch it over.

e.g. I use tweetbot to copy the URL of a tweet, then have a New Note bookmark on my homescreen, which I open and paste the URL into

aaronpk, good to hear you've found a use for future posts as well. Has it reached itch-level? http://indiewebcamp.com/p3k#Itching
#
tantek
also we don't seem to have a page about future posts, if there's at least a couple of us that are interested / have implementations, it might be worth capturing thoughts / support.
#
tantek
thanks barnaby :)
#
tantek
one question I'm wrestling with is how automatic the POSSEing should be
#
tantek
so when it comes time to *show* a future post, should my site then also auto-POSSE it immediately? or maybe delay a bit? (30sec - 5min)
#
tantek
Currently I still have to manually click a button to say "Post" to PuSH and POSSE even future posts.
#
tantek
But I'm consider having the server do it automatically, so it could e.g. POSSE out when I'm on a plane or otherwise offline.

tantek: to make post scheduling at least as useful as the silo equivalent it would have to be automatic
#
barnabywalters
i.e. buffer tweets automatically

barnabywalters - "silo equivalent" and "buffer tweets"? Twitter doesn't do scheduled posts - does it? (are there Twitter clients that do scheduled posts?)
andreypopp joined the channel
#
barnabywalters
oh, by buffer I meant Buffer
#
barnabywalters
which we don’t seem to have a wiki page about, weirdly
#
tantek
does Buffer have its own permalinks? Is it more than just a posting tool for other silos?
#
barnabywalters
not sure if it has it’s own permalinks, probably more of a tool
#
tantek
still worth wikifying
#
barnabywalters
indeed, doing

barnabywalters: I wonder if you could get Buffer to implement a trigger for IndieWeb comment posting
#
barnabywalters
bnvk: what would it do?
#
bnvk
"Post reply 'Blah blah blah' to http://waterpigs.co.uk/notes/sd213ss at 4:30 PM PST tomorrow"
#
barnabywalters
why do you want to do scheduled replies? seems like an odd thing to want to do :)
#
aaronpk
re: scheduled posts, yes I specifically wanted it to POSSE to twitter automatically. I actually don't mind that the blog post went out at 2am PST, but I waited intil just now to post the tweet
#
bnvk
Rly? I often want to delay communications
#
barnabywalters
if I’m writing a reply to someone I generally want them to see it as soon as they’re ready for it
#
barnabywalters
so, send immediately and they’ll see it when they’re ready for it, i.e. turn on device and get a notification
#
barnabywalters
delaying sending a reply seems like I’m presuming to know the recipient‘s schedule better than them
#
barnabywalters
unless there’s some convoluted scenario where I want a comment to be a surprise
#
Loqi
gives barnabywalters a comment to be a surprise

bnvk
here's a case- I meet you at a cafe, you say "Hey, we should get together and drink water sometime, but flying home to England tomorrow for 3 weeks, how about after I get back"
#
bnvk
I think "great" but now I have to remember to ping you in three 3 weeks
#
barnabywalters
ah, so that’s more of a reminder than a reply in my mind
#
bnvk
So, normally in that case I add to my calendar- which then reminds me to then send a message in 3 weeks- which is 2 actions on my part
#
bnvk
yah, sure
#
bnvk
but in an IndieWeb world- you might have just posted from your domain "Excited to get together to with @brennannovak after I get back from England" to which I would be replying
#
barnabywalters
also not sure I’d want to schedule the post, then have something change, and have to unschedule the post again
#
barnabywalters
this is probably better solved by creating a better reminder setting UI
#
bnvk
the goal is to be social and connecting, and only require 1 user action on my part

aaronpk: buffer has an API, so maybe you could just POSSE via buffer when doing scheduled posts instead of twitter http://bufferapp.com/developers/api/updates
#
aaronpk
huh, might look at that
#
aaronpk
or maybe not, I already have a good queuing system in place, wouldn't be hard to use that somehow
#
barnabywalters
unless it’d be easier to make a little cron script
#
barnabywalters
probably easier than interfacing + keeping up to date with another snowflake API
