#

does your webmention handler not save the source?
#
Jeena
it does, but because of https://github.com/G5/microformats2/issues/26 it saved the wrong one
#
snarfed
aha, got it
#
Jeena
for now I solved it by sorting them by length and then taking the longest one ^^

!tell aaronpk, benwerd, snarfed - you may want to consider submitting a short (one paragraph?) proposal for a brief discussion of indieweb comments/likes/reposts at this workshop 2014-04-02: http://www.w3.org/2014/04/annotation/#participate

another silo death coming up: http://zootool.com/goodbye
#
sparverius
tantek: you should post these to #archiveteam
#
tantek
"after months of struggling we are very sorry to tell you that Zootool is shutting down on March, 15th 2014."
#
KartikPrabhu
interesting article. Particularly the paragraph "Zootool made us realize that the general idea of running a central service is nothing we believe in any longer. Your data should belong to you and shouldn't be stored on our servers. You shouldn't have to rely on us or on any other service to keep your data secure and online."
#
tantek
KartikPrabhu yeah!
#
KartikPrabhu
somehow people are getting disillusioned with the silo idea. not just the users but also, devs who make these silos.
#
saeidw
hello everyone, I was just marking up my contact page with h-card, and then I got to my e-mail address
#
KartikPrabhu
it seems unless you are already a giant conglomerate like FB or Google it is not scalable easily
#
saeidw
it makes me sad that spammers would be the ones most likely to look for a u-email field :(
#
snarfed
saeidw: you don't have to add your email address
#
snarfed
or you can obfuscate it
#
snarfed
with unicode chars, html entities, etc
#
snarfed
(not perfect, but still helps somewhat)
#
saeidw
yeah, I wish I could though, I'm really liking the formats and the general principles behind indieweb
#
snarfed
great!
#
KartikPrabhu
saeidw: you should only add details that you are comfortable having on line. snarfed: obfuscating would be contrary to the entire point of having visible markedup data
#
snarfed
KartikPrabhu: not really. the obfuscations i mentioned still render fine in browsers
friedcell joined the channel
#
snarfed
i don't even really fully agree with the "no invisible metadata" thing…but just my opinion
#
KartikPrabhu
snarfed: but they would not be in any machine-readable format, which is the whole point of adding mf2 markup
#
snarfed
KartikPrabhu: good point
#
snarfed
specifically "silo-RSVP"
#
snarfed
i might have to start saying 'silo-VERB' instead of just 'VERB' more
Acidnerd joined the channel
#
tantek
snarfed - heh
#
tantek
and thanks for pointing out my errant copy-pasta slug (inadvertantly demonstrating less-visible metadata problem ;) )
#
tantek
agreed re: 'silo-verb' - nothing like a little reframing to remind people what they're doing!
poppy and lukebrooker joined the channel
#
saeidw
hmm can I split my h-card over multiple pages?
#
saeidw
I have some additional links to profiles that I don't want to show on my home page
#
snarfed
saeidw: sure, go for it
#
snarfed
another option is to use the same markup for both but hide those links on your home page
#
snarfed
that's controversial though, many people here (thought not all) don't like hiding things
#
saeidw
I don't mind hiding things, but in this case I also don't want duplicate information
#
snarfed
eh, it's fine. if your markup is ok, clients can (should) deal, and for the human visible part, you can do whatever you want with that

jesus so many people are pissed about me posting longer then 140 chard to twitter with a link to my website, If it will go on like that I am considering just to stop posting to it and stick to my own website.
#
snarfed
Jeena: hah. sounds like they need a hobby :P
#
Jeena
hehe yeah
#
Jeena
and it is not really that hard to unfollow somebody either ^^
#
snarfed
do you think they'd be ok with it if you hand-crafted a snippet for twitter that you didn't have to ellipsize?
#
Jeena
yeah they would, but it is too much work in my opinion, I'm not getting anything from them for doing it.
