GWG: yeah, understood. i just wasn't sure if you were following the issue on bridgy's github or not
#

#
GWG
kylewm: I saw it. I am happy to troubleshoot.
#
GWG
For example, there is a glitch in WordPress prior to the current version that caused replies to default to mentions.
#
kylewm
tantek: no attribution for Kartik on that tweet? tsk
#
KartikPrabhu
yeah where are my royalties! ;)
#
tantek
kylewm: yeah I couldn't make it fit - will do in a reply to self
#
KartikPrabhu
tantek: also you did lose the rhyme scheme "find them -- bind them" ;)
#
tantek
KartikPrabhu: yeah, sacrificed find for the more semantically correct retrieve
#
KevinMarks
which also breaks scansion
#
KevinMarks
poetry is hard
#
tantek
the scansion is close enough KevinMarks thanks to the schwa in spidr
#
GWG
kylewm, Semantic Linkbacks doesn't update old Linkbacks. It is an issue.
#
KevinMarks
One spider to crawl them all, one bot to curl them, one cache to index all, and in the silos hurl them.
#
@t
@t from @kartik_prabhu #indiewebcamp cleverness after rant about Google’s one cache, bot UA str http://indiewebcamp.com/irc/2015-07-20#t1437423981170 (ttk.me t4cG2)
(twitter.com/_/status/623285668601561089)
#
tantek
KartikPrabhu: I decided it was creepier to have the spider *crawl* you than just *find* you.
#
tantek
I mean, which sounds worse?
#
tantek
KevinMarks, bot to curl is good
#
tantek
though I don't get the "hurl" - is there throwing up involved?
#
KartikPrabhu
hurl = throw not used much these days
#
tantek
ohhh so, *into* the silos hurl them
#
KevinMarks
into silos hurl them
#
KevinMarks
then it scans again
#
tantek
the grammar still feels awkward with that use of hurl
#
tantek
like the rhyming is more forced than natural
#
tantek
the imagery of things being hurled into a silo is good though
#
tantek
being *bound* in a silo sounds even scarier. like a sense of being trapped.
#
@heathr
@ftrain looking for your piece today on your site as well but don't see it. Are yr medium posts only for that site?(and if so v curious why)

tantek
not at all, he's been up front about being a paid writer for /Medium
#
tantek
(previously even)
#
KevinMarks
twitter took away the custom backgrounds (improving their text contrast) but left the UI for them
#
aaronpk
my custom background is still there, only on tweet permalinks
#
KevinMarks
they kept the banner, not the whole page background
#
aaronpk
the background is there but not on my profile page, only on my tweet permalinks
#
KevinMarks
hm, oh yes
#
KevinMarks
so it's the themese they nuked?
#
KevinMarks
and I took my background pic off because ti was glitching badly in chrome

I think I should talk pfefferle into bumping the minimum version number for Semantic Linkbacks
#
kylewm
GWG++ good detective work
#
Loqi
GWG has 109 karma
#
GWG
kylewm: I submitted multiple PRs to pfefferle based on features introduced in versions past 4.2 myself.
#
kylewm
are older versions necessarily out of date for security reasons too? or might someone run an older Wordpress like they might run Ubuntu 12.04?
#
GWG
kylewm: There have been several critical security fixes.
#
GWG
kylewm: That's why Automatic Updates were introduced...in WordPress 3.7
#
GWG
This person is running 3.6.1
#
GWG
Minor releases are pushed automatically. Major releases you have to accept.
#
GWG
But it automatically does it.
#
GWG
It solved a large amount of security flaws.

#
Loqi
tantek meant to say: Jeena, also /mobilepub by ben_thatmustbeme lets you tag people via micropub
#
Zegnat
I think you have to parse the u-category-s on your end to see that you are tagged, Jeena. See http://indiewebcamp.com/person-tagging
#
tantek
when you verify the webmention, if you see that the link to you is on a u-category inside an h-entry, that means you have been person-tagged in that h-entry
#
Jeena
ok, I'm confused about the naming "category" for tag
#
tantek
Jeena - it's a re-use of what "category" is used for in practice
#
tantek
"category" being the term from vCard, iCalendar, etc. for free form category lables (AKA tags)
#
Jeena
I don't categorize people
#
tantek
no it's the post being categorized as being about that person :)
#
Zegnat
tantek, I forget, but does the IndieWeb have a name for “tag” other than “category”?
#
tantek
the u-category is a property of the containing h-entry
#
Jeena
it sounds like "for historic reasons" :p
#
tantek
Zegnat - not AFAIK, unless you're talking about tag-of posts
#
tantek
Jeena - yeah there's other standards as well that use "category" to mean the same thing
#
tantek
since there was that pre-existing reasonable consistency, it made more sense to re-use than make a new term
#
tantek
because a new term would get into all sorts of useless debates of is this a category or a tag?
#
Jeena
hehe yeah

"give them a url on your site" -- that's what i was thinking too, and why I think I will connect person tags with my nicknames-cache
#
ben_thatmustbeme
benwerd_: how does the micropub stuff work now for multi-user?
#
ben_thatmustbeme
if its built in by default now
#
kylewm
so they'll probably show up as "in this photo: nickname1" which links to "all posts tagging nickname1" with an h-card for them at the top of the index
#
aaronpk
kylewm: great idea
#
aaronpk
i will probably do the same
#
tantek
kylewm: once you have given them a URL on your site, it's no longer a cache though. ;)
#
aaronpk
"nickname proxy"?
#
benwerd_
ben_thatmustbeme: Stickily. It's still designed for the single users. We'll push out multi-user for the next one.
#
aaronpk
benwerd_: let's talk about that soon
#
benwerd_
aaronpk: sounds good
#
ben_thatmustbeme
indeed, loop me in on that conversation
#
benwerd_
Known 0.9 will have a real focus on multi-user sites, so it's timely
#
kylewm
tantek: fair point, it's already not really a nickname-cache, e.g https://kylewm.com/contacts/tantek
#
bear
if the nickname is a way to lookup the h-card canonical url - you can switch it out to any url at any time
#
bear
and your tags should still work
#
aaronpk
kylewm: whoa I didn't know you had that!

I'm thinking of setting up /Persona on my site as an auth step to leave a local comment. It would appear after the webmention form "Have you written a response? Send me a link."
#
gRegorLove
I realize Persona is JS only, but I don't mind that as a requirement to leave a local comment. People can still comment on FB or Twitter
#

Think it should cut out most spam, too. I guess we'll see.

it's a community thing now - the fallback services will continue to be maintained for quite some time - too much internal infra now depends on people using those accounts

I was wondering if that means it's relatively "safe" to run the include.js locally instead of from persona.org
