indeed we should continue to document the questions that various consuming implementations run into, analyze "easy to get right" authoring patterns, and formalize them in various algorithm building blocks, similar to /authorship and now how we're evolving /original-post-discovery per the ongoing Bridgy issue 51.
#
tantek
!tell rhiaro can you document the issues you're running into on /repost#Issues ?
#
Loqi
Ok, I'll tell her that when I see her next
#
tantek
!tell rhiaro in particular, the questions/issues you're running into are *very* key only-real-world-observable issues that are essential to the empirical methods we use in #indiewebcamp (and #microformats) in contrast to the more philosophically wishful methods of attempting to pre-define everything a priori that some other efforts attempt (and fail to touch on real world problems).

Loqi

tantek
what are publics?
#
Loqi
publics are the combined set of people who make up the readership or audience of a post https://indiewebcamp.com/publics

!tell KevinMarks I just braindumped some feelings+thoughts on my own personally perceived publics and I wonder if you could take a look to see if I understand the term and implications correctly: https://indiewebcamp.com/publics#Tantek if so it's going to force me to think a lot more about what/how I want to do (about) personal photo posts in general.

I'm really impressed with this https://blot.im/ ... I know there have been a jillion dropbox -> blog apps, but this one seems especially well thought out
#
kylewm
probably impossible to write a micropub plugin for though! bc you cannot access the files in another application's dropbox folder
#
snarfed
kylewm: you can if you ask for full permissions
#
snarfed
iirc dropbox has three tiers: read only, write to your own chrooted app dir, write to everything
#
kylewm
good point

!tell kevinmarks re: "audience perception of they public they see when commenting". Good point, I have tried to expand upon and describe that different "public" here: https://indiewebcamp.com/publics#Author_vs_commenter_publics please review again to see if that is what you were hinting at, and double-check my assertions/assumptions/implications.

The "handle" appears to be different: A gets inserted into the local store, but then it is B in the response.

Where A is '{HMAC-SHA1}{55f470e5}{lYwa7g==}' (set) and B is '{HMAC-SHA1}{55f470e5}{lYwa7g==}' (from the response).

Hello :)
#
r30
What's this channel about?
#
KartikPrabhu
what is indieweb?
#
Loqi
The indieweb is about owning your domain and using it as your primary identity, to publish on your own site (optionally syndicate elsewhere), and ownyourdata https://indiewebcamp.com/indieweb
#
r30
oh nice
#
KartikPrabhu
r30: do you have/want your own domain to post online things?
indie-visitor joined the channel
#
r30
not something serious
#
r30
Do you provide a hosting service?
#
KartikPrabhu
indieweb is not a company. It is a community of people who are using their own sites to post things instead of posting directly to Facebook/Twitter etc...

#

The advantage over social networks, like FB and Twitter, is that this is more customizable, right?
