#

so, had a thought that occurred to me... one of the reasons that silos like Facebook are so popular is that they make it easy for people to privately share content with each other... is there any sort of IndieWeb concept for allowing IndieWeb sites to "connect" with each other as "friends" and then share content privately?
#
aaronpk
cleverdevil: there's been some experiments yeah
#
aaronpk
what are private posts?
#
Loqi
private posts refer to posts or portions of posts which are private to either the author or to a limited audience chosen by the author https://indiewebcamp.com/private_posts
#
cleverdevil
yeah, this seems to be a pretty critical concept for adoption.
#
cleverdevil
Known has the concept of membership on a single installation, and making posts private to members... this would be sort of the same thing, where a "user" is remote to the site.
#
aaronpk
yeah totally. it's just a lot easier to iterate on UX and stuff faster when everything is public
#
aaronpk
we have a lot of things figured out way better now than last year, so I suspect to see more people working on private post things soon
#
@ken_bauer
No. no they have not. It is important to reclaim ownership of our data @jefferysaddoris see #IndieWeb See also http://www.wired.co.uk/news/archive/2014-02/06/tim-berners-lee-reclaim-the-web
(twitter.com/_/status/649628423946502145)
#
aaronpk
really it's a matter of when people get the itch to start working on private posts :)
#
cleverdevil
glad to see there is some sort of concept already baking.
#
cleverdevil
that said, when it comes to social features like this, its only going to work if you see adoption.
#
cleverdevil
which means user experience is going to be have to be pretty much perfect, along with integration into silos.
#
aaronpk
that's why it's so important to grow it slowly and organically!
#
cleverdevil
if I want to share a private photo gallery of my kids and have my mom see it, its pretty much Facebook or nothing right now :/
#
cleverdevil
we'll get there :)

Is anyone going to do people-reviews (like Peeple) on their own site, or accepting reviews of themselves? Sounds way out there, but I am still left wondering.

I am part intrigued, and part scared of someone actually submitting my phone number to them
#

Guess Tantek is safe, as it seems you can only rate people bound to telephone numbers, ha!
#
aaronpk
I have two phone numbers, work and personal, I wonder if that means I'll have two identities there
#
Zegnat
According to a screenshot on http://thenextweb.com/opinion/2015/10/01/peeples-app-isnt-out-yet-and-its-already-hated-for-good-reason/ you can start a profile/page for anyone as long as you enter “their cell phone number” So I would guess the answer is yes, aaronpk

#
GWG
acegiak: I am just running it through the kses filter you submitted by pull request
#
GWG
Not sure what would be different
#
GWG
I had a security warning sent that I wasn't sanitizing my inputs. I thought I had used the KSES option you set up on every sanitization, but maybe I missed one
#
acegiak
GWG: I went in and just removed the kses filter so it's not filtering anything at all on mine currentlyand the html is still getting filtered out
#
acegiak
let me look where I was editing
#
GWG
I just hate those security warning tweets on Post Kind vulnerabilities.
#
acegiak
oh yeah no we should remove the vulnerabilities
#
GWG
What happened to notifying the author and giving them a few days to fix it before telling the world to panic?
#
acegiak
line 174 on kind class-post-meta.php is where I removed the kses and still getting the weird behaviour
#
GWG
acegiak: I'm just saying I may have made a mistake in removing them
#
acegiak
oh gotta go back in an hour
#
GWG
Good. I'm going to go take something for my pain and maybe I can work on this for a bit

I have a question concerning the procedures a webmention receiving endpoint should adopt when faced with URLs that can redirect. if there's anyone willing to help me understand it, please read it here: https://github.com/snarfed/bridgy/issues/497#issuecomment-144875874 (it is small, just a comment)
#
aaronpk
the quick answer is the target parameter should be present in the HTML of the source URL
#
aaronpk
regardless of redirects
#
aaronpk
verifying that the webmention is valid is as simple as "does this target parameter exist in the HTML?" with no additional http requests
#
KevinMarks
though if it's your own site presumably you know what you url variants are?
#
aaronpk
yes but that's after verifying the webmention is valid

#
kylewm
basically, adactio's minimum viable webmention endpoint (https://gist.github.com/adactio/6484118) is right and i was wrong :)
#
fiatjaf
aaronpk: whenever you are sending a webmention (automatically sending) from a noteyou wrote referencing some other note by an URL that is not the final (i.e., it will be redirected to another), then you must either (1) not follow any redirects and send the webmention to the URL exactly as it is in your note; or (2) edit the body of your note to match the URL after redirection to which you are sending the webmention?
#
aaronpk
that sounds correct
#
aaronpk
I would recommend not following redirects and letting the receiver sort it out
#
kylewm
(or i guess the general rule of putting the onus on the sender to make things easier on the receiver)
j12t joined the channel
#
tantek
kylewm: except the receiver may move their site, change their site path / URL structure (like aaronpk is doing) in which case the receiver has to handle redirects anyway, because they created the redirects long after the responses to their permalinks were posted.
