#
miklb
am I correct to understand webmentions from one post on my site to another will not appear?
#
KartikPrabhu
depends on you. the spec does not say anything about "displaying" received mentions
#
KartikPrabhu
webmention is only to notify you that a post has linked to your post. how you handle that notification is up to you
#
miklb
but would by default it appear if I've not directly hidden my own webmentions?
#
KartikPrabhu
if your "blog software" does not explictly hide them then yes
#
miklb
thanks
#
KartikPrabhu
like I said, the webmetion protocol does not say anything about this
#
miklb
gotcha
#
KartikPrabhu
miklb: I am sending a webmention from your test post to mine, to check if it appears as a reply
#
KartikPrabhu
aa ha! found a little bug in my code! though your reply shows up nicely
#
miklb
I managed to get my script to work, and it "says" it sent webmentions to my endpoint. I had to trudge through 11 years of cruft of old links to get it to cache those old links, so should be able to test new posts/qualified endpoints going forward

ok webmention question: if a post does not contain a u-url should the webmention receiver default to the "source URL" as the URL of the post?
#

#

#

also trying to work out which of my plugins is making it hard to update posts on my blog
#
GWG
acegiak: I have some plans for the next two days. IWC NYC starts in 8.5 hours
#
acegiak
oooh! exciting!
#
GWG
I have a plan
#
acegiak
I'm trying to work out an easy way to create indieweb replies from tweets on my phone. At the moment I have a neat greasemonkey script for doing it on desktop but android really needs a good way for custom scripts to hook into intents
#
acegiak
what's your plan?
#
acegiak
can I see it?
#
GWG
My next project. Which is hard because I have so many side ideas as I do
#
acegiak
yeah always tricky
#
GWG
Well, the next thing is redoing location with venues set as a custom taxonomy with term meta...something I couldn't do before.
#
GWG
After that, location gets me events.
#
acegiak
prioritizing is tough
#
GWG
That was why the last addition was time.
#
GWG
Time + location equals event.
#
acegiak
oh neat!
#
GWG
It also gets me checkins.
#
miklb
GWG: you use WP then?
#
GWG
miklb: Yes, I do a lot of work in that areas.
#
GWG
After that, I want to do travel.
#
GWG
Travel is 2 locations plus time.

I also have thoughts of trying a feature plugin for webmentions.
#
GWG
And improving the Indieweb plugin to have rel-me support
#
miklb
GWG: reason I ask is I'm not as married to Jekyll for my site as I thought I was as I'd rather put indieweb 1st, mobile blogging 2nd, and have seen some great workflows for iOS -> WP posting lately. I've got a long history with WP and could maybe make a bigger contribution there.

Tantek-ing is a method of encouraging people to contribute to the wiki by indirectly prompting the person who first mentioned the term to create a short wiki dfn page for it https://indiewebcamp.com/tanteking

hm, I'm trying to remember how I started, it was before tumblr, facebook, twitter, I think I started with my own domain http://web.archive.org/web/20040914045023/http://www.jeenaparadies.clever-webspace.de/jeenas-home/ this ist already the 2nd version, the first was just HTML, this is already running on my own blog engine
#
KartikPrabhu
what is github?
#
Loqi
GitHub is a specialized content hosting silo for code, issues, comments, and static content that has some aspects of a commons, and through free domain mapping, a content hosting service as well https://indiewebcamp.com/Github
#
KartikPrabhu
that should have info ^

aaronpk: do your /collection posts send webmentions to the things being collected?
#
aaronpk
yes, just like any other post
#
tantek
if you receive a webmention to one of your posts that it is in a collection on someone else's site, do you show anything different on that post? like "this post has been placed into N collections?" or "this post was collected into ... "?
#
aaronpk
nope, I don't know how to tell if a post is in a collection

startssl is one of the few companies to *verify* the info
#
GWG
They were nice about it
#
tantek
right, we're just pointing out that LetsEncrypt does not do identity verification, just domain verification
#
aaronpk
Amazon just started doing free SSL certs too, and similarly does not to identity validation
#
tantek
aaronpk - add that to /HTTPS ?
#
bear
the amazon certificate manager is free for AWS use only

which is useful if you happen to run things on AWS

:) - I didn't know if the image was flipped so I switched to "your"
#
cleverdevil
We at DreamHost already have it for hosting plans, but I'd really like to make it available as an API for our cloud services too.
#
cleverdevil
It's a shame it doesn't do wildcard certs though :/
#
bear
wildcard cert is overkill for the audience they are targeting
#
bear
and if you can get a new/renewal quickly then you can setup mulitple domains fast enough
#
aaronpk
was about to say that
#
cleverdevil
Yeah it makes sense.
#
cleverdevil
But, it'd be convenient :)
#
bear
yea, from the ops-of-a-shared-host perspective
#
cleverdevil
Then again, if it's all consumable via API, then it can be automated and it becomes sort of irrelevant.
#
bear
nods - moves the complexity to the people who should be able to manage it

jgmac1106: subdomains are better for script/cookie isolation (e.g. you can define a cookie that is valid for only "sub.domain.com", but not one restricted to "domain.com/sub"), relevant if subdomains are controlled by different users or run apps of different trustworthyness

Yeah reading through the Foursquare API -- you basically have to use their DB exclusively, you can't mix and match data sources

are the other things reviews?
#
KevinMarks
that may be a way to do that
#
mwunsch
And they have retention policies for caching their data
