I’d like to propose a new IndieWebCamp logo. ^^^
#
[shaners]
See it and read all about it on my blog and the /logo wiki page.
#
prtksxna
Looks really neat. The W going below the baseline bothers me a little though
#
tantek
I'd be curious to hear what andigalpern (she proposed a new logo just before IWC SF 2015), and Crystal think
#
tantek
@andigalpern and @crystaldbeasley respectively
#
GWG
Evening. I am now home for the night
#
GWG
prtksxna: Your Indieweb feelings needed rekindling?
#
prtksxna
GWG: They sort of did. I did a bunch of work on my theme last year but then work and a few other things took over. Life etc
#
GWG
prtksxna: What are your itches, as some here would say?
#
prtksxna
GWG: Better themes for WP that have indie plugins
#
GWG
That have support for Indie plugins, you mean?
#
[shaners]
tantek: Pinged them on twitter. Anyone else who’s radar we should put it on?
#
prtksxna
I meant WP installations that have Indie plugins
#
GWG
I tried some theming. But I've mostly been working on the structural side.
#
GWG
I was working on location improvements and venues, but I switched to working on things for the Indieweb plugin to have rel-me and some basic h-card functionality.
#
prtksxna
GWG: Which plugin is this?
#
GWG
Trying to make it easier for newcomers
#
snarfed
[shaners]++ love the new logo(s)!
#
snarfed
(still think it might be even better without the block in the C, but no matter. great regardless!)
#
gRegorLove
Agreed, great work on the logo [shaners].
#
[shaners]
Thanks!
#
[shaners]
snarfed: The notched out circle with no block becomes very imbalanced. And the weight of the whole things shifts.
#
prtksxna
Isn't that a collection of plugins? Any plugin in specific that you are working on?
#
gRegorLove
Yeah, the block in the C makes my eye see the white line as a smaller "C" first before the entire circle as a "C", but that's minor and I don't have a good alternative suggestion.
#
GWG
prtksxna: It isn't a collection per se. It is a plugin installer. But functionality is being added to it. It is in the dev version. Still being improved before moving to live.
#
tantek
Thanks shaners - appreciate it.
#
prtksxna
GWG: I see
#
GWG
prtksxna: Not ready for primetime yet.
KartikPrabhu joined the channel
#
prtksxna
GWG: I'll check out the dev branch then :)
#
GWG
prtksxna: The original idea for the Indieweb plugin was Like JetPack for Indieweb.
#
prtksxna
Right, that is what I remember it to be
#
GWG
prtksxna: Working on making it more compelling.
TheDavidJohnson joined the channel
#
prtksxna
GWG: That's really cool. Just to be sure I understand this correctly, that plugin is going to have functionality built in instead of just being an installer?
endi joined the channel
#
GWG
prtksxna: It is going to have rel-me and h-card. The rest will be the installer
#
KartikPrabhu
Loqi messages?
#
Loqi
is done
#
GWG
prtksxna: It is based on feedback that people had trouble getting started.
#
prtksxna
Right. The rel=me will get them started on the wiki too!
#
GWG
Exactly

aaronpk: do you have or recommend anything for editing start/end datetimes of an event? https://jonthornton.github.io/Datepair.js/ looked decent to me
#
aaronpk
that looks nice
#
kylewm
(asking beause the "Published Date" widget at the bottom of your UI looks pretty close to what I want)
#
aaronpk
right now i'm just using <input type="date"> and then a regular input for the time
#
GWG
kylewm: I'm using date and time, but where they don't work, I have a quick and dirty shim.
#
aaronpk
oh this library is good. it does things i want like setting the end date based on the date you choose of the first
#
aaronpk
they forgot about timezone support tho
#
kylewm
geez, <input type=date> has the reddest compatibility table I've ever seen :P
#
GWG
aaronpk: I spent a week fiddling with that for Post Kinds.
#
GWG
Of course, I got it working, but it still doesn't do much but store it
#
kylewm
yeah timezones :(
#
GWG
I had to build timezones out of a select box myself.
#
GWG
Although someone should write a Timezone picker
#
kylewm
GWG: is "date and time" a thing? or do you just mean the input types?
#
aaronpk
funny thing about posting trip itinerary, timezones are super important!
#

so tantek.com pushes to superfeedr, which in turn notifies loqi
#

aaronpk: nice, thanks!

I would need to learn how to do a HTML presentation first, so I just did it in LibreOffice
#
ben_thatmustbeme
on another note, IWC MIT 2016 is up to 13 attendees listed
#
KartikPrabhu
Jeena: Google+ Photos did not "go away" technically. All user data was transferred to Google photos
#
ben_thatmustbeme
one person on eventbrite RSVP'd with +2
#
KartikPrabhu
Jeena: Pg 7 Commity should be either "community" or "committee"
#
ben_thatmustbeme
he actuired an RSVP of +2 Attending... hehe
#
Jeena
KartikPrabhu, I just copy^pasted it from the wiki
#
Jeena
I'm getting shit about the typos in a different irc channel too, I'm fixing them now
#
KartikPrabhu
Jeena: Pg 8 : "Builders only" is not a good characterisation of Indiewebcamp IMO
#
KartikPrabhu
Jeena: not giving shit, just pointing out :)
#
Jeena
very good!
#
aaronpk
snarfed: and now it found the link to news.indiewebcamp.com
#
snarfed
i think it did before, but still
#
snarfed
i see one small remaining bug, fxing now
#
aaronpk
oh youre right
#
KartikPrabhu
Jeena: Pg 23: "Hundreds"
#
KartikPrabhu
Jeena: over all it is a pretty nice overview
#
Jeena
the builders only I got from http://indiewebcamp.com/timeline

#
KartikPrabhu
but i think lately we have moved on from even that to anyone who would like to have their own site. for example people using Known
#
KartikPrabhu
who might not contribute code but actively use KNown as their site
#
aaronpk
snarfed: should I launch this?
#
snarfed
up to you! no hurry on my part but it seems pretty safe, as a new opt in feature
#
aaronpk
yeah, I think worst case is the new feature does something weird, but shouldn't hurt anything about the current functionality
#
snarfed
hopefully yeah
#
snarfed
continuousdeployment++
#
aaronpk
alright there it goes!
#
Loqi
continuousdeployment has 1 karma
#
snarfed
yay thanks!
#
aaronpk
that should be interesting!
#
snarfed
totally! zero code too, just superfeedr => zapier => telegraph
#
aaronpk
oh you think youcan do it with zapier?
#
snarfed
zero code is my favorite amount of :P
#
snarfed
i think so, yes
#
aaronpk
as a one-off thing though right?
#
aaronpk
cause you need to hard-code your domain in it/
#
aaronpk
not bad tho!
[shaners] joined the channel
#
[shaners]
No code is better than No Code.
#
aaronpk
so basically zapier takes the incoming payload from superfeedr and then sends a post to telegraph?
#
snarfed
yeah. zapier can parse json and lets you map arbitrary fields into an arbitrary outgoing HTTP request
#
snarfed
haven't yet found a corollary in IFTTT
#
aaronpk
wow zapier is expensive tho!
#
snarfed
they have a free tier
#
aaronpk
max 100 tasks / month tho
#
Jeena
I changed Builders to Creators
#
aaronpk
oh ifttt has the "maker" channel now whcih might do that https://ifttt.com/maker
#
snarfed
ah true!
#
@jkphl
@diplix hey, schade! (hatte deinen antwortversuch nicht mitbekommen) hätte dann noch http://indiewebcamp.com/2016/Duesseldorf zur @btconf im angebot!? ^^

I have one hour for my talk, 26 slides sind kind of a lot and I also have links to examples everywhere
#
KartikPrabhu
Jeena: you can briefly describe the things but then point people to URLs to find out more. If you put your slides online and give them the URL in the end then they can find the links on their own time too
#
[shaners]
That’s 2+ minutes per slide. You’re golden.
#
Jeena
Yeah, that is a good idea, I'm thinking about giving out handouts which they can take home with them with the url to the slides
#
KartikPrabhu
good idea
#
aaronpk
oh darn, ifttt can't do any transforms on the JSON
#
aaronpk
and expects a JSON payload with a key of Value1 that you can pass to the output
#
Jeena
use yahoo pipes!
#
[shaners]
I usually do about 1 slide every 10 seconds, Jeena.
gRegorLove joined the channel
#
Jeena
That would be too much work to do the slides for me :p
marcthiele joined the channel
#
aaronpk
snarfed: okay well I just set up a superfeedr tracker for this, and wrote a few lines of php to transform it since it was easier
#
aaronpk
if this works well then I guess I'm paying superfeedr $2/mo for it :)

I wonder why people use curl instead of file_get_contents
#
aaronpk
so i can send a post request
#
cweiske
file_get_contents can do that, too
#
cweiske
with a stream context
#
aaronpk
that sounds more complicated
#
@veganstraightedge
@andigalpern @indiewebcamp Is this posted anywhere on your blog that I could link to?
(twitter.com/_/status/694987353731903488)
#
aaronpk
also it requires the server has enabled fopen wrappers which is not guaranteed
#
aaronpk
www.bogo?
#
cweiske
oh sorry
#
cweiske
was my local search engine results
#
aaronpk
huh, never seen that before
#
aaronpk
can you get the HTTP response code or headers from the result of file_get_contents?
#
cweiske
that's dirty indeed, but yes
#
cweiske
the function returns false if its an error code
#
cweiske
if you want also html of failed requests, you have to pass a context option
#
cweiske
ignore_errors
#
cweiske
and the headers:
#
cweiske
$http_response_header is created in the local scope
#
cweiske
but it's only an array of strings
#
cweiske
which means you have to parse it on your own, which sucks
#
cweiske
and it gets really funny if you follow redirects, because the headers of *all* responeses are in there
#
aaronpk
wait it creates a variable in the local scope? ew
#
aaronpk
that kind of stuff is what gives php a bad name :P

That $http_response_header apparently also has a limit of 1024 characters and will ignore any headers exceeding that. cURL doesn't have that limit.

Surprised they haven't deprecated that, at least. Docs list it as even in PHP7 though

kevinmarks: Can I suggest, using a white background instead of the light blue so that when things are screenshotted (from phones, eg) they don’t have blue in there.
#
[kevinmarks]
makes sense - I did the blue initially so you could see where the alpha was, but the little previews give that
#
[shaners]
:+1::skin-tone-2:
#
[kevinmarks]
the direct links don't do that

also I had some white+alpha ones that were invisible on white

IndieWeb or indieweb -- depends on how formal it is IMO
#
gRegorLove
"IndieWeb" is pretty common on the wiki, including in section headings like "IndieWeb Examples"
#
[shaners]
I also tend to one-word it and hashtag it.
#

Proper-nouning "The IndieWeb" comes off weird to me. Not sure I can articulate why.

the one word part I think is a non-issue -- don't ever see it as two words
