good morning folks
#
Zegnat
sknebel, miklb, I saw you discussed analytics and piwik. If I recall correctly, piwik has an importer for accesslogs. This means you do not need to run any analytics within your backend or send extras to the visitors browser, just use what your server software is already generating. You also don't need to read server logs yourself that way.

I am only confused about one thing. The sentence “Shout-out to Bea […]” on adactio’s demo should be on a new line, it has 2 linebreaks before it in the wikisource, but it shows as continuation of the paragraph…
#
Zegnat
I am also not 100% sure about what name I should use for Juliane. Julie? Jules? Juli? I see so many different spellings. I went with what was on the attendents list.
#
Zegnat
Either way this should now cover most - if not all - of what was demoed.
#
Zegnat
(Hopefully this was what adactio had in mind when he told me he assumed I was taking notes :D )
#
sknebel
huh, the shout-out... line break really is *odd*
#
Zegnat
Yeah … I don’t know what is up with that :/
#
sknebel
for some reason the entire stuff below the blockquote isn't wrapped in <p> tags
#
sknebel
until the next section begins
#
sknebel
same in the block above, but there it isn't visible
#
Zegnat
Oh. I might have to remove those then. Too bad.

Zegnat: the trick is to add a newline before the </blockquote>
#
sknebel
I think the parser got confused because there was a list item on the same line
#
Zegnat
how did you even figure that out?!
#
sknebel
third sense for stupid bugs :P
#
sknebel
it worked once I removed the list item
#
sknebel
wiki-syntax lists in blockquotes aparently aren't used very often
#
Zegnat
I figured, but it looked nice :p
#
sknebel
yeah, adding the newline let's us keep it
#
Zegnat
!tell aaronpk Apparently sknebel figured out the blockquote problem by using magic https://indiewebcamp.com/wiki/index.php?diff=27713&oldid=27712&rcid=27673
#
Loqi
Ok, I'll tell them that when I see them next
#
sknebel
(maybe a template for quotes would be nice, that displays the name and puts it in the cite="" value etc)
#
Zegnat
I should also write something for the db vs flatfile session I think. That page is still empty, right?
#
Zegnat
I agree, but I could not be bothered to set that up right now... This was a lot more work than it looks like, haha
#
sknebel
tantek copied your notes from irc for db vs flatfile
#
sknebel
performance and i18n are the two sessions that miss things in the wiki
#
sknebel
(+ aarons intro sessions, but they don't shouldn't have had content that isn't covered exhaustively already)
#
Zegnat
I wasn’t at performance, and i18n was just on IRC. But I might sit down and take care of i18n then!

gRegorLove
What's the appropriate markup for citing a book + author when posting a quote? I'm reading different things, like <cite> must be a valid URL
#
gRegorLove
I'm thinking, override the italic style of <cite> and use: <cite class="h-cite"><span class="p-author">Author Name</span> in <em class="p-name">Title</em> </cite>
#
gRegorLove
Or do I even need <cite> in that case? Could just use a div.
#
miklb
<cite> must be to a title of work, name of author OR a reference URL
#
Zegnat
gRegorLove: all depends on who’s definition of cite you hold yourself to. I think W3 spec says it can only be used for written works (no people, etc), and there also isn't a real way to hook it to a blockquote. Though I found http://oli.jp/2011/blockquote/ a very good write-up of the mark-up (with companion examples: http://oli.jp/example/blockquote-metadata/)
#

Oops, I mistook "cite attribute" (on blockquote) with "cite element". Spec makes more sense now.
