A lot of the wiki IMHO suffers from the contrast between offering quick, definitive information to a beginner vs documenting a lot of details
#
sknebel
random example: looking at /getting_started, it very early links to http://indiewebcamp.com/web_hosting
#
sknebel
which covers the entire space, but describes tons of options that are "exotic" in the sense that they are probably not for you if you don't know already what they are
#
aaronpk
i think this is the contrast between using the wiki to document/develop things, vs offer tutorial-like information for someone not interested in developing the space, just using it

Eventually the wiki will have too much in it for the common person to browse it and be able to get value for the types of choices they'd like to make. It's the difference between going into Baskin Robbins when you want vanilla or maybe chocolate and being overwhelmed with 34 flavors (and someone behind the counter also wanting to show you how to manufacture ice cream) and then not being quite sure about your vanilla choice. Right now the

Hi, I'm trying to set up webmention on my website using Webmention.io but I can't figure out how to delete a mention. I tried the <meta http-equiv=status content='410 Gone'> trick but it didn't work. Configuring nginx to return 410 just for this seems too much of a hack and I also can't find how to do this. I would like implementation algorithm documentation to be included for a webmention
#
acti-link
endpoint service, without resorting to dig into its code. So my question is: how to implement webmention deletion using Webmention.io?
#
aaronpk
hi acti-link
#
aaronpk
the meta equiv thing is relatively new and I haven't implemented it on webmention.io yet
#
aaronpk
come to think of it, i don't think webmention.io supports deletes at all right now
benwerd joined the channel
#
acti-link
I also tried webmention.herokuapp.com but I wasn't able to set it up correctly. I chose it first because of the CORS feature. I was able to set up webmention.io using the JSONP feature. Now I still have to figure out a few things like deletion, and how to take the JavaScript from the body of my pages into a <script src=...> tag in head. Also I can't get the author name I want using webmention.io.
#
acti-link
Author name "0" doesn't work, it's probably filtered out as "false". Anyway thank you for your work, I will come back to find out more about deletion. If you implement deletion please mention it in the documentation.
#
aaronpk
the author name "0" shouldn't be happening, can you provide an example URL where that's happening so i can take a look?
[kevinmarks] joined the channel
#
[kevinmarks]
For those h-cards aren't a lot of the properties implied? And you can get away with fewer " too
#
aaronpk
i'm confused, I only see <a class='p-author h-card' href='/' style='display:none;'><small>0</small></a>
#
bear
@aaronpk - this was in my brain for a h-card mockup https://bear.im/h-card-mockup.png
#
bear
(just make the url and name text a larger font is all
#
acti-link
I'm only beginning to implement webmention. The implementation is very minimalist at this time. Is there something missing? The same page registers different author name on webmention.io but "0" is translated to "".
#
aaronpk
[kevinmarks]: i wanted to be more explicit about showing the property names since it's also meant to be a teaching tool, and while minimal h-cards are good, they take advantage of a lot of the microformats2 "magic" that makes it hard to understand what's actually going on
#
[kevinmarks]
You're still implying p-name
#
aaronpk
more importantly, i think my design looks like crap
#
bear
have a normal card but with a barcode that shows the h-card data?
