aaronpk: I remembered the distinction between u-featured and u-photos for /this-week
#
tantek
u-featured was only for display purposes in the newsletter for *upcoming* events, never for being a featured photo of the /this-week POSSE copies itself
#
aaronpk
that makes sense
#
tantek
thus past events would never show u-featured photos in the /this-week newsletter
#
aaronpk
tho I still think u-featured shouldn't be pictures of people from past events
#
tantek
and thus /this-week tweets would never use a u-featured photo
#
aaronpk
if they are pictures of people from past events then the u-featured should be removed after the event is over
#
tantek
even for upcoming events?
#
tantek
ohhhh
#
aaronpk
it only makes sense for upcoming events before the event has happened
#
tantek
interesting
#
tantek
I agree that logically makes sense
#
tantek
I cannot think of any FB events where once the event has passed, the featured photo is changed
#
aaronpk
maybe the actual position/layout of the photo makes that not look odd
#
tantek
I tried to model the presentation of the featured photo on event pages to be similar to the "heading image" style of FB event pages
#
aaronpk
it's close
#
aaronpk
i think the photo butting up against the top of the page is actually significant
#
aaronpk
on the wiki there's still the wiki page title
#
aaronpk
let's see if turning that off looks better
#
aaronpk
that actually helps a lot
#
aaronpk
the facebook featured photo is also a shorter height (different aspect ratio), not sure if shortening ours would help even more but that's definitely a difference
#
aaronpk
i don't know tho, I look at that facebook event and it definitely looks like those people were at that july 13 event
#
KevinMarks_
We used the "lots of faces" composite before
#

KevinMarks_: tantek left you a message 2 weeks, 2 days ago: looks like we have an existing issue re: mobile presentation https://github.com/indieweb/wiki/issues/27 please add more details there!
#
tantek
whoa old message
#
aaronpk
yeah i forgot to move the !tells to the new channel!
#
tantek
the lots of faces made sense for the camps but not necessarily the hwc
#
tantek
aaronpk yes notitle helps!
#
tantek
hmm - I think I adjusted the height / aspect ratio to better fit the photo, but maybe I was thinking too "photo-like" rather than "feature-impression-image" like
#
tantek
(to explain the difference between wiki page and FB event)
#
tantek
checking the aspect ratio
#
tantek
784x294
#
tantek
0.375
#
aaronpk
that is better
#
aaronpk
the other thing it's missing is the date in the header section
#
tantek
and the image is not tight flush up against the light blue "Page Read Edit View History" tabs
#
tantek
ah 16px padding in the theme
#
aaronpk
here's what it looks like with -16px top margin on the photo https://aaronparecki.com/media/file-20160721005553-96455.png
#
tantek
yep that's nicer
#
tantek
ok that's enough cleanup iteration for one day to then let it sit and see what else pops out (like the event date)
#
aaronpk
small but good improvement

that is often the case!

"BuddyPress 2.8 will require at least PHP 5.3.x. " at last!
#
petermolnar
it took only 7 years!
#
voxpelli
is still amazed at how bad the plugin system is in WordPress
#
petermolnar
but it makes money for many, many, many "coder"
#
miklb
I have a lot of respect for Boone, and he is a core committer, so I trust that with BP taking that approach, won't be long before core does too
#
voxpelli
if they were to allow for multiple versions of the same plugin then one could support a legacy and a nextgen plugin at once
#
petermolnar
miklb I would not hold my breath, core is becoming rather boneheaded
#
voxpelli
the only way to progressively introduce new language features into code is to allow two versions of the code base to co-exist – something eg. Drupal, node.js/npm and probably lots of other package managers allow
#
voxpelli
I guess composer as wel
#
miklb
I learned not to hold my breath on a lot of things WP related a long time ago :-)
#
petermolnar
personally I would got nuts without static:: and, lately, namespaces and closures, so I'm not even pushing anything to the official wp repos any more
#
voxpelli
petermolnar: in js-land they would use all the cool new bits and just transpile it to old boring code ;)
#
petermolnar

#
Loqi
Ok, I'll tell them that when I see them next
#
singpolyma
sknebel: thx
#
aaronpk
singpolyma: there's no HTML forms or anything in that gem, but the "request phase" it does for omniauth is the redirect you're talking about
#
aaronpk
so you could make your own form and redirect to the auth server yourself
#
singpolyma
aaronpk: so if I make a form that POST to /auth/indieauth on my site with a field for domain?
#
aaronpk
it'd be a GET but yes
#
aaronpk
basically make the form that you see on indieauth.com
#
aaronpk
if you set the callback URL to the route that the omniauth gem expects then it will take over from there
snarfed joined the channel
#
singpolyma
aaronpk: oh, I see. not a form to post to /auth/indieauth, but to get to indieauth.com itself
#
singpolyma
would be nice if the gem could handle that (taking the "me" from a form in-app and adding the client_id and redirect to indieauth.com)
#
aaronpk
yeah definitely a good idea
#
singpolyma
should I open a github issue?

I found out this morning that the local Pasadena Apple store has a nice little conference room (which they typically use for business services and meetings) hiding in the back of the store. They occasionally let it out for community building purposes, so I've just gotten back from a brief pitch meeting to see if they'll give the Los Angeles area HWC space for regular meetups. It might be a worthwhile idea for other cities to explore if they ne
