hello! just bought a domain and i wanna start my blog as a static website... which is the most head/workless framework i can use?
#
luqtas
ok i'll use Astro

#
[contact898]
a friend of mine uses astro and is very happy with it I think
#
[aciccarello]
I've heard good things about astro. I think that's what [Al_Abut] is using for his site.

#
[Al_Abut]
Yep! I love it now that it’s going but just a heads up that you definitely need to be comfortable with javascript.
#
[aciccarello]
If you have technical questions, the #indieweb-dev channel is a great place to ask
#
[Al_Abut]
Took me months of getting the rust off to get set up the way I like it, worth it in the end for me personally. Might be worth looking at a few other options first, like eleventy or Hugo.
#
luqtas
nice! i'll just want to have a side menu with pages/posts... i think there are tutorials
mcepl joined the channel
#
[Al_Abut]
their tutorials are the best, it’s how I got sucked in 😂
#
[Al_Abut]
It’s probably overkill for most blogs, happy to expand in #indieweb-dev

Are there any known problems with GPG signing to https://indieauth.com/? It used to work for me, but suddenly it doesn’t.

Using this script:
#
mcepl
#!/bin/sh echo "$@" | gpg --clearsign --armor
barnaby and [tantek] joined the channel
#
[tantek]
mcepl ^ that's probably better for #indieweb-dev
#
[tantek]
unfortunately making GPG signing work is still something quite inaccessible to most users :(

I don't blame sites for being frustrated, but I noticed that the they don't mention caching at all in that article which seems like what they need. I don't see how Cloudflare is supposed to help
#
[KevinMarks]
maybe if they served it statically the previews would work too
#
[aciccarello]
Yeah, seems like mastodon is exposing an architectural issue
#
luqtas_
i tried at <style> on <head> but no avail
#

luqtas_ This is a question best answered in #indieweb-dev. There are more developers in there that can help!

^ that Mastodon DDoS issue is so painful, esp that it's years old. if you have to say "don't share links on our network," that's clearly a bad sign for encouraging adoption or usage
ttybitnik, gruetzhaxe and [capjamesg] joined the channel
#
[tantek]
[snarfed] I got stuck on trying to name the problem in order to create a page on it
benji joined the channel
#
[tantek]
DDoS is a jargon acronym so I was hoping to use something more broadly understandable / searchable / findable by people looking for an answer (but not knowing it, like yes, if you know to search for DDOS, then you already know part of the answer)
#
[KevinMarks]
there's an uncreated page for 'thundering herd' on this page https://indieweb.org/microcaching
#
[tantek]
yeah I'm adding a bunch of links to /to-do which has an existing entry for "need to create a thundering herd page" in general, beyond Mastodon

aaronpk which site? the itsfoss site? "simple" answer: block all JS on that site by default, loads fine, zero lag, fast scroll, images load no problem etc.

#
[tantek]
[snarfed] I hacked one up the other day!
#

but that was syndicating my own content to IndieNews
#
[tantek]
I don't have a /bookmark post type to submit someone else's URL to IndieNews

and that article deserves to be directly submitted like that so its article name & permalink show up top level in the newsletter, rather than one our brief notes about the article
