Installed WithKnown, but can't upload anything -- php says mkdir() is denied. is this a common problem? I have the dir as owned by apache. Fixes super-welcome
#
michielbdejong
henson: that shouldn't normally happen
#
henson
michielbdejong: I'm wondering if it's selinux or something
#
michielbdejong
the uploads folder should be outside the www folder, do you have that?
#
henson
michielbdejong: I've got it in /var/www/html/Uploads
#
michielbdejong
ok, it's better to have it outside that folder. although that's not related to the actual problem
#
michielbdejong
so do you have ssh access?
#
michielbdejong
can you do a recursive chown and chmod?
#
michielbdejong
are there any sub directories of /var/www/html/Uploads yet?
#
michielbdejong
because they also should all be writable by the Apache user
#
michielbdejong
also, all the folders need to be 'executable'
#
henson
michielbdejong: I had done a recursive, but it ended up being selinux (Fedora Server 21.) Now I just need to figure out how-to fix that without totally disabling selinux ;-)
#
michielbdejong
i don't use selinux, maybe someone else can help with that part
#
henson
michielbdejong: thanks! Did you make your /var/www dir owned by apache as well?
#
michielbdejong
henson: I made it root-owned, but with the apache user's group
#
michielbdejong
then gave 750 to folders and 640 to files iirc
#
michielbdejong
for the /var/uploads folder I gave the same ownership (chown -R root:www-data /var/uploads) but then 770 and 660 perms
#
michielbdejong
afaik Known does not write anything except for the uploads folder and the database (not sure if you can install custom plugins through the control panel yet)

What can I do markup wise to get the best results?
#
snarfed
that's a broad question
#
snarfed
can you narrow it a bit?
#
GWG
Well, for Facebook, how do I tell it I want a link post over a complete syndicated copy? Same with Twitter.
#
Loqi
gives GWG a link post over a complete syndicated copy
#
kylewm
p-summary?
#
snarfed
yeah, it's not well documented but kylewm's on the right track
#
snarfed
try different combinations of p-name, p-summary, and e-content

snarfed
preview in bridgy publish and see what you get
snarfed1 and snarfed joined the channel
#
snarfed
GWG: thanks for the nudge, we should add the specific precedence for each silo to the faq
#
GWG
snarfed, controlling the presentation is hard with every syndication tool I have tried.
#
snarfed
yup! that's why i often still posse manually
#
GWG
That is why I have been giving it thought. Especially after how many Tweets that got truncated despite my counting of characters.
#
snarfed
for twitter, i usually author in twitter's api to get that right, then copy/paste into wp
#
GWG
I should add POSSE problems to the wiki if it is not there.
#
Loqi
it is probable
#
GWG
These sites do not make it easy.
#
GWG
The other problem is spamming my feed whenever I try to test it.
#
snarfed
that's why i included preview from the begininng

#
snarfed
much less annoying now
#
snarfed
sad that the invite messages don't catch people's names though
#
snarfed
fixable
#
snarfed
yeah. doesn't help that i think the markup is wrong, at least semantically
#
snarfed
or at least may not conform to http://indiewebcamp.com/invitation
#
kylewm
snarfed: it looks like it conforms to me, just not totally obvious who the 'author' should be of an invitation post
#
kylewm
i.e. in terms of displaying it in my comments
#
kylewm
without resorting to passive voice! "Ryan was invited to ..."
#
snarfed
ah, right . i think that's what the wiki proposal has that i don't : the inviter
#
aaronpk
isn't the author of an invitation the person who invited the person?
#
kylewm
ohh, does the FB API tell you who authored the invitation?
#
snarfed
eh halfway. i think i can get the event owner(s)
#
snarfed
not sure about individual invites
#
aaronpk
facebook shows it at least
#
aaronpk
but that doesn't mean it's in the API
#
kylewm
good enough
#
snarfed
i know i get the owner; i already use it
#
snarfed
oh inviter. sorry.
#
