Still looking for advice on how to format replies from my Known site going to Twitter. I really don’t need them to repeat the content, and I certainly don’t need my dumb avatar up there every time. Any clues? Here’s an example https://twitter.com/EatPodcast/status/806850545134747649

maybe disable twitter tags?

[jeremycherfas] tantek circumvented that by not putting in real url, eg. "ttk.me t4khB" instead of "http://ttk.me/t4khB"

cweiske Not sure I know where I would disable Twitter tags. In Known somewhere? Not on Twitter, I don’t think.
#
cweiske
https://vaviblog.com/2016/madwags-guess-youre-not-watching-designated-survivor-or-are-you contains twitter tags:
#
Loqi
[Jeremy Cherfas] @madwags Guess you're not watching Designated Survivor. Or are you?
#
cweiske
<meta name="twitter:card" content="summary"/>
#
cweiske
and so on
#
cweiske
no idea if you can disable them in known
#
[jeremycherfas]
@petermolnar Again, not sure where or how I would do this, as I still have very limited access to Known under the hood. (Working on that, though.)
#
petermolnar
[jeremycherfas] I have no ideas what Know can and can not do out of the box; tantek's solution is an example of how to avoid the problem
#
[jeremycherfas]
Ah, I see, I’m still wrestling with the fact that I cannot currently make changes to my Known installation.
#
petermolnar
but that has nothing to do with known directly
#
petermolnar
^ this was the continuation of my line
#
[jeremycherfas]
Petermolnar. Right. I guess I need to see if I can find out more details about tantek’s solution.
#
petermolnar
even if you did, it may be crucial to have a tie-back url in the tweet for known to identify it, though I'm just guessing here
#
petermolnar
a url like that is needed for bridgy
#
petermolnar
for example
#
cweiske
syndicate-to is the keyword here
#
petermolnar
twitter is making a mistake by facebookifying the way they handle links
# thebaer joined the channel
#
cweiske
see http://indieweb.org/rel-syndication
# hs0ucy joined the channel
# friedcell joined the channel
#
[jeremycherfas]
So even if I knew how (and indeed whether) Known was generating a twitter card or a syndicate-to of some sort, I wouldn’t be able to experiment with it.

I think I may just be frustrating myself by worrying about this stuff until I have true control over my domain and the freedom to mess it up if I want to.

sebsel, any proposed locations for "HWC the Netherlands" next week?
#

well if it's just us two, Arnhem is the best option, but for continuity Schiphol would be better.

Arnhem is closer to Germany however... anyone? :)

quick indieauth(.com) question for aaronpk (or other folks that might know): is it possible to have an "unhosted" javascript app successfully complete an indieauth flow and get a token usable for micropub?
#
[schmarty]
wow that certainly is the same site, good find!

database-antipattern << http://imgur.com/r/ImagesOfThe2010s/dgR5T
#
Loqi
ok, I added "http://imgur.com/r/ImagesOfThe2010s/dgR5T" to the "See Also" section of /database-antipattern
#
aaronpk
[schmarty]: yeah as long as the app has a URL that can be redirected to
#
[schmarty]
i am working on a micropub client for events and realized that if i can do the indieauth dance without a server component that would make it easy for other folks to grab it and self-host
#
aaronpk
there's no secret or pre-registration required for indieauth so the typical things that prevent OAuth 2 from working with javascript apps don't apply
# gRegorLove joined the channel
#
[schmarty]
ok, that was the sense i was getting from looking at the indieauth.com source and my vague understanding of OAuth 2
#
[schmarty]
that's really helpful, thanks!
#
aaronpk
[schmarty]: try looking through this guide https://indieweb.org/obtaining-an-access-token
#
aaronpk
probably more helpful than the indieauth.com source
#
[schmarty]
looks like as long as the app can make requests to the token endpoint and the micropub endpoint then it should work
#
aaronpk
yeah
#
[schmarty]
i had forgotten about that page. definitely easier to reason through. :}
#
aaronpk
oh yeah those endpoints will need to support the necessary CORS headers to allow those requests
#
aaronpk
would appreciate adding notes to the wiki for anything special you have to do to make that work
#
@linuxheilbronn
Unser @dkreuz stellt einem Dutzend Usern gerade das »IndieWeb« vor. Vorteil: Meine Daten sind auf meiner Website! https://indiewebify.me (twtr.io/1L4MVy6sjJ9)
#
[schmarty]
now i am trying to balance the costs/benefits of building a static single page app which is easy to host but complicated to set up due to CORS issues, versus requiring a server component that is more complicated to host but bypasses CORS and other running-in-the-browser issues.
#
gRegorLove
Haha. I got quite a kick out of that line in that movie, KevinMarks. Almost as much fun as "It's coming through the RSS feeds!" in Man of Steel
#
Loqi
hehe
#
KevinMarks1
clearly the screenwriter had tried to use emoji in MySQL
#
[schmarty]
with a server component, the client could also be made to work without javascript, which somehow "feels more indieweb" to me
#
KartikPrabhu
also see: https://twitter.com/andybrk/status/805706545346461696

# Pierre-O joined the channel
#
Zegnat
[schmarty], you could also develop it as a single page app, and then package it up as a WebExtension so you can get around CORS
#
[schmarty]
what is WebExtension?
#
Loqi
It looks like we don't have a page for "WebExtension" yet. Would you like to create it? https://indieweb.org/s/10VT
# ehlovader joined the channel
#
aaronpk
course then you have to make sure the authorization server will allow the crazy URI that will be required to redirect properly
#
Zegnat
True, I think those pages are accessed on the chrome: scheme. Would be interesting to see if servers accept non-http schemes
#
Zegnat
What are WebExtensions?

Loqi
It looks like we don't have a page for "WebExtensions" yet. Would you like to create it? https://indieweb.org/s/10VU
