Pocket Casts is a cross-platform, open source [1] podcast application.

  • 2008: Philip Simpson and Russell Ivanovic formed Shifty Jelly (the company that developed Pocket Casts)
  • 2018-05: Pocket Casts has been acquired by a collective group that includes NPR, WNYC Studios, WBEZ Chicago, and This American Life. Shifty Jelly founders indicated that they sold to the group because:

They want what’s best for the podcasting space, they want to build open systems that everyone can use.
