crowdfunding is the practice of asking people to promise to buy a project, sometimes with a set goal to trigger payments, other times with no set goal, which is generally implemented by siloed organisations, although there is at least one IndieWeb alternative to Kickstarter, one of the most popular crowdfunding silos.

Craigstarter is an open source crowdfunding tool built on Shopify by Craig Mod. It's free to use / edit / extend crowdfunding tool with multiple goals and variants as campaign tiers.
Craig Mod built the platform to fund his book which met its goals and is shipping in October 2020.

Ignition Deck is an ecommerce, crowdfunding, and fundraising solution (via paid plugin) for WordPress that can be integrated with WooCommerce, and is 100% theme independent. The project is maintained by Alex Vasquez.
