Steemit is a blogging silo with gamification (badges and achievements to be unlocked) to encourage publishing posts, replying, upvoting, and other interactions. Every interaction is then assigned a token value using the STEEM cryptocurrency. Posting, liking and commenting earn tokens and the content and valuation are captured on a blockchain ledger. Currently membership is not open, and the users have to go through an approval process.
